The Sisterhood is ruled by the High Abbess of Kellenor, in the Nygrom Priory. She herself is subordinate to the Master-General of the Order of St. Karant.

Sisters-Minor

From the age of 12 through the end of their 15th year, many young girls are chosen by the Sisters to serve their abbeys. Most of these girls serve the needs of the monastery itself and its immediate lands, but they also learn a variety of skills, including healing, weaving, the making of clothes, and limited militia skills, especially in the use of slings.

The Order prevents Dwarden women from staying at the monastery beyond their 16th birthday, as they are expected to return to their homes and becomes wives and mothers. However, young women who endure extreme emotional or spiritual trauma are allowed to stay at the monastery on a yearly basis, pending the approval of the abbess and the knight-commander himself.

Sisters-Militant

Infertile women, and women are judged deformed but physically capable by the knight-commander may enroll in the monastery as sisters-militant, pending the blessings of the High Abbess. Young widows below the age of 40 may also apply to become sisters-militant if they have birthed and raised three children who have survived into their minority.

The leader of the sisters-militant of an abbey of St. Kaylen is called the shield-canoness, who might in turn lead distinguished senior sisters-militant called canoness-militant. If the abbess herself is considered a sister-militant, then she is called abbess-militant.

Sisters may remain sisters-militant until age or weakness impairs them, as decided by the shield-canoness or abbess.
