What he should have been

Demetrius King of the Kanasos

Early Life

After preventing the betrayal of his father in Five Pillars, young Demetrius joined the dwarven army where he climbed the ranks through battlefield promotion. At the end of the Dwarven war in Five Pillars, he was given a Thaneship and was offered a position as a General, but formally declined citing the lack of a need since peace had been established. Cashing in all the spoils of battle, Demetrius wandered into the company of Lars St. Morning Glory and Anderis Krusack. Being amused with their knowledge of the world above and lured by the chance to shine again in glorious combat, a humble Demetrius begrudgingly accepted the invitation above.

Description

Personality

Calm and confident he is rarely elevated to anger. In the face of great danger he feels excitement when most would feel fear. Some might attribute this to a lack of intelligence but Demetrius' mother always told him that if you cant be smart be happy. Subjugating lesser people peases the dwarf greatly as does the impregnation of human women. He will drink ten times his weight in ale to get totally wasted at least once per month. He is generally kind and will often do favors for those whom he feels can repay it at a time of great advantage to himself.

Adventures

The Crushing of Mazaros and the Ignorant Hegemone

Upon arrival to the surface world Demetrius examined the area. A suitable castle in need of repair, and an utterly defenseless village of potentially useful people. Satisfied with the current state of affairs Demetrius dismissed Anderis Krusack to leave, denying him his birthright and ownership of the castle. Fearing the dwarf, the arrogant Krusack fled vowing to return one day to reclaim his destiny. After that matter had been settled Demetrius quickly made his way to the town called Mazaros, a stupid name he thought, and murdered the fat lazy man called a hegemone, some sort of lesser knight. After destroying the worthless human, Demetrius acted as a distraction so the wizard Lars could kill the local wizard and assume his possessions and wealth. Fearing death the citizens of Mazaros quickly groveled at the feet of the mighty dwarf. He arranged for their largest building to be made his home until the fortress could be rebuilt. With the help of the wizard Lars he took on many wives with the hopes of bring up many Mul sons. So swift and effective was his victory word never reached the outside world.

Kanosian Allegiance

Many months after subduing the village of Demetria (formerly Mazaros), the new chief of the valley began sending raiding parties into the hills. These aggressive raids angered the natives and an orc tribe presented itself. With the magical items left behind by the previously useless hegemone, the mighty dwarf and his friend Lars, smashed their pitiful band and enslaved the survivors. The slave gangs soon began restoration on the great castle. This led to the discovery of some griffons that had nested in the highest levels of the old fortress. Demetrius sent an inquiry and some men from a town called Hathbell soon arrived. Together they captured the griffons and began training them as mounts. Demetrius paid the men to teach him the art of aerial combat with the taxes he collected in Demetria. After several months he was flying his griffon throughout the hills. A messenger on griffon soon arrived from a place known as the mountain lakes. The dwarf was a representative of Lord Bakaurs Dragonfriend. Seeing the quality work that had been done in the valley, subjugating the villagers, the dwarf was willing to bestow honors upon Demetrius if he swear an oath of loyalty to his Lord. Seeing the advantage of such an allegiance he took the oath and was granted work crews and other dwarves to aid in his efforts. This pleased Demetrius greatly and he sought more human women to father many more Muls.

The Asylum of Paragon Avish the Elf

Less than one year later an interesting visitor was brought before the proud Lord of Demetria. An elf calling himself Paragon Avish, was seeking asylum from the humans of the villages outside the valley. Demetrius inquired and the elf explained that he had been trained as a ninja by the former rulers of the castle. With his skills he attempted to apply for a post at the fort manned by troops from the twelve towers that were stationed in the town of Veris. The captain of the guard insulted the elf, denying his skill. Feeling slighted by the foolish human, Paragon Avish felt obliged to demonstrate. He quickly procured his former masters katana, called the "Dragon of Shao Pae". With his mighty weapon Avish murdered the captain and all his troops and set the fort ablaze. Feeling it would soon be unsafe for himself in Veris he fled to Astanow. He was brought before the prince, to whom he explain the simple quarrel. The prince, arrogant and self righteous disregarded the elf's story, claiming he could not have possibly killed the captain or his men. This further insulted the elf's sensitive feelings of self worth. He again felt obliged to demonstrate his abilities. While the prince debated what he should do, Avish quietly and carefully assassinated the King of Astanow in his sleep. Taking the family sword and hiding near by he waited for a time then reentered the city and murdered the prince and his bodyguards with his own family sword. Avish spent many nights pillaging the village of Astanow of all wealth. When it was no longer safe he fled to Demetria.

The story of disobedience to human law pleased the dwarf but he was not sure he could trust the elf. Blatantly the elf claimed he could only be trusted if Demetrius believed his story. Amused by the implication of threats of violence Demetrius and Lars decided they believed the elf's story. Avish donated all the wealth he had gathered including weapons and armor. And so was accepted. The addition of this murderous spy to his arsenal of tools pleased the mighty dwarf Lord and so he took on more wives and fathered even more Muls.

The Secret Subjugation of Hathbell

After the disapearance of Lord Marnaus, his dwarven bodyguard sent an envoy to Demetria to ask for help in returning their lord. Conspiring with his friends, Demetrius placed many spies and agents in the city and set out for an entrance to Gehenna that was believed to have been opened in the north. This is not the tale of the trip to Gehenna, nay simply the telling of a spy machine put in place to make Paragon Lars St. Morning Glory, ruler of Hathbell. The spies did their dilligence and the remaining powers of the city elected Vantion, nephew of Marnaus, as the new leader. Upon the triumvirates return, Vantion, an agent of Paragon Avish, appointed Lars as ruler. With the death of Marnaus in Gehena the dwarven body guard was leaderless and so was hired out as a mercenary guard to Lord Demetrius. Vantion had prepared the coup well and so a gift of women slaves was given to Demetrius, and he continued to build his Mul army.
