Maldrenian Songs

One of the great epics of Dwarden, the Maldrenian Songs are among the most famous and popular in Dwarden. An epic from the time of the dawn of a unified Dwarden under the faith of Mandador, these songs survive in the modern age due to the high bard Ranthem, a survivor and witness of those times.

The Maldrenian Songs are named after the wizard war-king Indrian Maldren, the Tenebrous King of Thorania, who came to power in Thorania in the latter part of St. Yathamian's legation to Dwarden in the first century of Mandador. A malignant figure in Dwarden lore, King Indrian is never given a direct scene in Ranthem's epic, and is only referenced, and not directly portrayed.

Ranthem's epic is in two major parts, the Indrian and the Lantholdian. By far it is the Indrian half of the epic that is the more famous and popular.

The Indrian Threnodies

The Indrian songs tell the tale of the aftermath of the defeat of the Mandadorian pro-praetor Tarentius Ascandarius, or Lord Tarenth, who attempted to invade Thorania in support of St. Yathamian's legation there in the latter half of the first century of Mandador. Slain by King Indrian, it fell to High King Lanthold, son of Kantold the first Mandadorian High King of Dwarden, to avenge the pro-praetor to whom he had sworn unending friendship.
