Appearance: Tall and lanky, but with great upper-body strength. He has dusty black hair, and kind blue eyes. His narrow face might be handsome, but his indifferent attitude to those about him limits the extent of his charisma. John-Brandon keeps himself well-shaven.
Background: A commoner's son, a blacksmith. Impressed into the military, namely the forces of the Baron of Basternae. Campaigned, and motivated to professional skill by a charismatic adventurer warrior, with whom he trained, for the warrior saw potential in him. Continued military service as a sergeant. Indolent with inactive military roles, John-Brandon, as the unit armorer and sometime quartermaster, became involved in a lucrative embezzlement scheme, carefully selling armor and goods for his own benefit. At last his superiors thought they had gathered enough evidence to court-martial him, but he had implicated too many fellow soldiers, so John-Brandon's punishment was simply dismissal from service.
Character: Once hoping to be a hero adventurer, continued military service has disillusioned John-Brandon. Unmotivated by his middling position, in his indolence some of his potential slackened. Instead of training and honing his martial abilities, he eventually grew indolent and sought his own comfort in the quartermaster's tent. John Billiand is a petty thief and embezzler, who enjoyed using such extra funds in gambling, drinking and whoring. He is somewhat relieved that his military service has come to an end (although secretly angered at it), and now suddenly takes great pride in his soldierly weapons, armor and gear, looking for quick opportunities for wealth and position in the civilian world.
Skills: Learning from his father, John-Brandon received advanced training as an armorer during his time in the military. As a commoner, John-Brandon did not learn how to read or write as a youth, but forced himself to learn during his military service, seeing that this skill was highly helpful for advancement in society. John-Brandon will make efforts to read and write on a regular basis, to keep such a skill sharp. John-Brandon keeps lifting rocks in his room, to keep his upper body strength robust.
