Monastic Sword

The Monastic Sword, also known as the Kantelinian Sword, the Drathantorian Blade or the Blade of High Saints was the last holy avenger made by St. Yathamian in Dwarden, with the assistance of the monk Ladron and the sun dwarf Maelkon. When it was completed, it was given to Ladron in trust, who in turn bestowed it upon the young paladin Kanteline. Kanteline wielded the blade and the Diaconate Shield against the immortal super-monster Grombod. The blade, prayed over by a returned St. Yathamian himself, struck into Grombod's back when Kanteline flung himself from a mountain peak, thereby plunging it into the back of the god-thing's heart. Kantaline himself was crushed against the mountain wall, and flung to the rocks below, killing him, but Grombod bellowed and fled to lands unknown, and has not been seen since, perhaps because he is dead. By custom the sword is held by the Paladin-Defender of the Monastery at Drathantor, the inheritor of Kanteline's position to the current day.
