“'At home now in happy Mirsaki, after everything has finally calmed down, I have decided to write of my most interesting life. As of now I am 29 years old, and a most experienced individual. I am one of those very rare people who have lived a life of unprecedented change, activity and contradiction. I was born a peasant’s son, and when I was 11 began to study for the clergy. I was removed from ecclesiastical training because I stole from the local bishop. My parents dead, I was adopted by the local mage, whom I quickly outdid and later bested. I stole all his knowledge and began terrorizing the village with it. This lasted a year until I was dejected by local do-gooders, but not before killing their mage in a private duel. I fled from my homeland, the Holy Isle of Dania, and began making a career out of slaying numerous mages along the Northwaters River in Polydidus for no other reason than to say that I had done so. Eventually however, the lands I had accumulated were invaded by a coalition of warlords. I was captured and taken before the Archduke. Luckily, I struck a deal with the captain of the guards (whom I later slew), promising him gold. For years I worked for a warlord in the County of Hollapse, but seeing my opportunity I one day stole all that he had, and made my nest in the far off frontier city of Urstwater. In Urstwater, I quickly became lord of the city through terror and force. For over two years I ruled the city with ease, until of course misfortune found me again when I found myself surrounded by two large armies, both of which at least tripled the number of troops I had. The general of one of the armies was supposed to be one of the best in the world, and the leaders of the other army were soldiers of fortune bent on destroying me because I had attempted to usurp their power in the north of the realm. Forced to choose sides with one army, I chose the soldiers of fortune. My city was invaded and I essentially became a prisoner. It’s funny how a man can change with just one decision. After my wardens somehow managed to destroy that famous general on the field, it was my decision to join them, to help them in whatever it is they did. At first I did this to survive and leech, but later that changed. I found this group of soldiers, clergymen, politicians, cut-throats and mages to be the most comforting group of people I had ever met. It was with them that I found my peaceful niche in life, and it was because of them that I became involved in such a spectacular chain of events that I am now writing about it. It all began with my childhood…'
