The Crimson Atoll is a large floating atoll in the heart of the Deep Silt. Previously boasting four major and five minor floater domes, in oral tradition the atoll is the result of a merger between the dwarves of the Randor clan and the mixed clan of the People of the Burnt Forest, who fled the evils of "hardland" in generations past. Other clans have subsequently been added to the population of the atoll, including the Strangers of the Plinth, some families of the Stylites of Dremenzd, and descendants of hardland sailors who found sanctuary on the atoll in times past. In a more recent addition, the dwarves of Urzgot were enslaved by the Crimson Atoll. The most recent edition was the addition of the dwarven clan of Mrenbar, who came from hardland in the legendary Valley of Dust and Fire.
The atoll is generally of the very strong belief that all hardland is evil and exceptionally dangerous. They believe that all hardland is ruled by the Dragon, and that the Dragon that rules the world has decided that all hardland will soon be covered in silt, so that nothing will remain. Due to these entrenched beliefs, the people of the atoll will be loathe to leave deep silt culture, and will be highly suspicious of any hardlanders who attempt to convince them otherwise.
The current leader of the atoll, the hetman, is Narkon the son of Narkon. Narkon the Elder was a psionicist of no mean power, but he was killed in the recent disastrous battle with the fleet of Alteric. The Sons of the Burnt Forest have since placed their faith and trust in his son Narkon, who is a shipfloater of lesser power.
